Veteran Mayienga FM presenter and head of station, Festus Amimo, has passed away.
His death was announced by the vernacular radio station, which broadcasts under the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
“It is with profound shock, deep sorrow, and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our Head of Station,” Mayienga FM said in a statement shared on its social media pages.
The station did not provide further details regarding his death.
Until his passing, Amimo also served as the Chairperson of the Luo Journalists Association.
News of his death has drawn widespread condolences from leaders across the country.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi remembered the late broadcaster as a consummate and charismatic media personality. Wandayi said Amimo’s contribution to the media industry and his personal warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
“I am devastated by the news of the untimely demise of Festus Amimo, the Head of KBC's Mayienga FM Station. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and professional colleagues. Festus was a consummate and charismatic media man. He was a dependable ally. R.I.P Wuod Awasi,” Wandayi stated.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo described Amimo as a warm soul whose humility and kindness touched many lives.
“Festus was a warm soul and a true friend whose kindness and humility touched everyone around him. Until his passing, he served with great dedication as the Head of KBC Dholuo – Mayienga Radio and Chair of the Luo Journalists Association, where his leadership and passion for storytelling shaped countless voices and strengthened the profession. As we mourn him, I hold his family, friends and all who loved him in my thoughts,” Omollo said.
Siaya Governor James Orengo eulogized Amimo as a calm, collected and gifted journalist, noting that his death is a significant loss to the media fraternity.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Festus Amimo of Mayienga Radio. A calm, collected and truly gifted soul whose loss is a heavy blow to the entire media fraternity. Your sessions on air were exceptional, marked by grace, depth and unwavering respect for every guest. Shine on your path, my good friend. Your voice and spirit will be dearly missed,” Orengo stated.
He will be greatly missed.
Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda also described Amimo as a friend and brother who touched the lives of all who interacted with him.
